PFB – Prodromus Florae peninsulae Balcanicae
The Prodromus Florae peninsulae Balcanicae drafted and written by August von Hayek was published between 1924 and 1932 in 3 volumes. While Hayek published the first two volumes during lifetime volume 3 was posthumously published after completion and final editing by Friedrich Markgraf. The work, nearly 3,000 pages in total, is a monumental flora comprising all taxa of vascular plants known at that time from the Balkan Peninsula. It provides determination keys, synonymy and distribution, according to defined geographic regions, for all taxa down to subvarietal rank. Almost 100 years old it is still the last complete Flora dealing with all vascular plants known at that time with direct link to the Ionian Islands.
