Annotation: Acis ionica is known from Cephalonia (where the type locality is situated: »prope pagum Hagios Nikolaos«: Bareka & al. 2006: 360) since 1834. However, it was long since mistaken for A. valentina [Leucojum valentinum], a species endemic to Eastern Spain, and flowering in autumn as well. Only recently it was recognised as separate species of the Ionian region (Tan & al. 2004: 40, referred to as Leucojum ionicum; Bareka & al. 2006: 360) that occurs as well in Southern Albania and the Greek mainland facing the Ionian Islands. Chromosome counts of A. ionica (2n = 16) were performed using plant material collected on Lefkada, Cephalonia and Zakynthos: Damboldt & Phitos 1975, Müller-Doblies & Müller-Doblies 1975, Bareka & Kamari 1999.
