Annotation: The indigenous populations of SE Europe had been separated already by Candolle as Lunaria biennis var. corcyraea based on plant material coming from Corfu (Candolle 1821: 283). They are presently often classified as L. annua subsp. pachyrhiza. Its chromosome number 2n = 30 was confirmed on material from Cephalonia (Runemark 2000: 394, Liveri & al. 2015: 157, both under that latter name). Morphological differentiation from »typical« L. annua (as commonly cultivated, otherwise known only subspontaneous) is weak and rests on the presence of at least some roots forming fusiform tubers. Treatment as subspecies as presented in most floras seems taxonomically inadequate. [2016-09-30]
