Annotation: The Ionian plants of the Luzula multiflora complex turned out to be diploid what can be demonstrated by stomatal length, while true L. multiflora is a polyploid species. However, the chromosome number of 2n = 24 points to an agmatoploid taxon, as are known (cf. Kirschner 1993, Bačič & al. 2007) from the Pyrenees (L. multiflora subsp. monticola), Alps and adjacent submediterranean foreland (L. exspectata, L. divulgatiformis), Sicily (L. calabra), mountains of the Balkan Peninsula (L. fallax) as well as from Anatolia and the Caucasus region (L. stenophylla). The Ionian population morphologically falls into L. multiflora as defined by Kirschner (Kirschner 1993, Kirschner 2002a), but differs from subsp. monticola by e. g. bigger flowers. Further investigations have to show its proper taxonomic position. [2016-01-11]
