Annotation: In the Mediterranean region Poa annua is represented by subsp. pilantha (Scholz 1968: 19), a morphotype described based on material from Zakynthos (Ronniger 1941: 97, as var. pilantha), and characterized by more hairy lemmas also between the nervs as is apparent in our Ionian material. However, geographically more extensive investigations are needed to corroborate the subspecific rank as plants are known also from temperate Europe with a similar indumentum and lemma nervs hairy often nearly up to the point.
