Annotation: Records published under the mere name Polygonum aviculare need critical revision in respect to infraspecific taxa, and some of these records might even correspond to P. arenastrum. The whole complex still requires further large-scale investigations (cf. Wisskirchen’s comments in Wisskirchen & Haeupler 1998: 378–380). Subdivision of the former species into subspecies (here accepted from »Flora Hellenica«: Snogerup & Snogerup in Strid & Tan 1997: 83) is admittedly provisional, and correlation of diacritic characters is sometimes weak oder contradictory (regarding leaves and flowers, respectively).
