Annotation: The infraspecific taxonomy of Silene vulgaris needs further detailed investigations especially in the Mediterranean; therefore association with presently recognized subspecies is to some extent provisorial. Most previous reports for the species are of ambiguous identity regarding the subspecies; and in particular the occurence of subsp. vulgaris within the Ionian Islands (as recorded e. g. by Georgiou 1988: 90; Yannitsaros & al. 1995: 7) needs confirmation.
