Annotation: Ionian vouchers of Cornus sanguinea available to us differ from typical subsp. sanguinea by leaves beneath with at least some adpressed, medifixed hairs apart from ± patent, often crispate »simple« hairs. They approach subsp. australis (with nearly exclusively medifixed hairs which are oriented strictly parallel with each other); similar intermediates have been separated as subsp. hungarica (Karpáti) Soó. In our plants many of the medifixed hairs of the abaxial leaf surface are more or less asymmetrical, often slightly patent, and are partly transitional to the »simple« hairs. [2016-04-28]
