Annotation: It remains unclear if subsp. ludoviciana, defined by smaller spikelets (lemma: < 25 mm) with a maximum of 3 flowers, and shorter ligula (≤ 4 mm), deserves the rank of a subspecies. However, such morphotypes can be found on the Ionian Islands apart from »typical« A. sterilis and intermediate states as well. [2016-04-02]
