Annotation: Cerastium illyricum (s. str.) is one of the endemic species of the Ionian Islands. Its chromosome number (2n = 34) was counted with material from Cephalonia (Damboldt & Phitos 1971: 787). The pretended record on Corfu is based on a single voucher deposited in WU (Lonsing 1939: 152, referred to as C. pelligerum, a synonym of C. illyricum described on material from Valsamata on Cephalonia: Bornmüller 1928a: 34). The fragmentary information on the label (»in ruderatis Corcyrae«) might suggest a certain ambiguity in respect to the locality, when compared with other labels of the same collector who used to give more precise collection places; at the collection time (»Jun. 1895«) K. Grimus had visited Mt. Enos on Cephalonia as apparent from other vouchers. Otherwise, there is only one though geographically vague record from »Nothwestern Corfu« (Chilton 2013: 8). Further confirmation of its presence on Corfu is desirable. [The Grimus record discussed above obviously was interpreted in Flora Hellenica« (Strid & Tan 1997: 458) as coming from the town of Corfu (and not merely from the island), so possibly the corresponding dot on p. 391 is a fictitious localisation.] However, according to Strid (in Strid & Tan 1997: 205), the type collection of C. illyricum (an Arduino sheet in herb. LINN) possibly originated from Corfu. [2017-07-18]
