Annotation: The Ionian plants provisionally subsumed here as Cerastium siculum exhibit short pedicels (mostly only marginally longer to shorter than the calyx) and often tetramerous flowers. They neither seem conspecific with the (North-) West European C. diffusum [C. tetrandrum] (that differs in distinctly longer pedicels of the primary flower, and longer sepals) nor with the Central European C. pumilum s. str. (with longer glandular hairs, and petals longer than sepals) nor with C. glutinosum (exhibiting the lowest bracts adaxially glabrous, with scarious margins). From the often tetramerous, northern C. subtetrandrum our plants differ in shorter glandular hairs (≤ 0,2 mm) of the stem internodes, shorter pedicels of the primary flower, shorter styles, and the inflorescence confined to the upper third of the flowering shoot. However, plants described as C. tetrandrum f. zacynthium (Möschl in Ronniger 1941: 28–30) obviously belong to the taxon under discussion. Further research covering specimens from the whole Mediterranean region is needed to taxonomically resolve the C. pumilum group. [2016-07-09]
