Annotation: Geographically the Galanthus population of Corfu is rather isolated. First described as G. nivalis f. corcyrensis (Beck 1894: 51) it is presently treated under G. reginae-olgae (Kamari 1982, Davis 1999). Sometimes it was separated as subspecies (e.g. Kamari 1982) or even species (e.g. Stern 1956) though this snowdrop is autumn-flowering like subsp. reginae-olgae from Peloponnisos. Its chromosome number was determined as 2n = 24 (Svešnikova 1971, confirmed on wild plant material: Kamari 1981: 64, 2n = 24+0–1B). In »Vascular Plants of Greece« (Dimopoulos & al. 2013: 46) subsp. vernalis alone was reported for the Ionian Islands, but in the »Supplement« (Dimopoulos & al. 2016: 312) both subspecies are indicated for this region without further comment. Recently subsp. vernalis was reported from Lefkada (Trigas & al. 2021) but according to flowering time and leaf development at time of flowering the population should be referred to subsp. reginae-olgae as well.
