Annotation: Within the Limonium vulgare group (Brullo & Erben 2016) L. brevipetiolatum was separated as hexaploid species (Artelari & Erben 1986b: 707), based on plant material from Lefkada. The chromosome number of 2n = 54 was determined on material collected on Corfu, Lefkada, Cephalonia and Zakynthos (Artelari 1984a, Artelari 1984c: 20, as L. angustifolium). It is known as an endemic of the Ionian region (occurring on the main islands as well as at the coast of W. Peloponnesus opposite to Zakynthos, and south to the Messinian Bay). Occurrence on Kastos and Echinades islands (Soros, Apasa, Makri, Makropoula) however were reported without further comment as L. narbonense (Chousou-Polydouri 2005: 66, Iliadou & al. 2014: 134), a very similar but tetraploid species only recently proved for Corfu within the Ionian region (Brullo & Erben 2016: 32). Confirmation of their identity is desirable. [2016-11-19]
