Annotation: Petrorhagia fasciculata was described based on material from Zakynthos (Margot & Reuter 1839: 281, t.1, as Gypsophila fasciculata). Damboldt & Phitos 1972: 38 have separated plants with fewer (1–3, at most 6) flowers per inflorescence and often slightly longer sepals as P. fasciculata var. cephallenica, earlier classified by Bornmüller 1928b: 180 as Tunica fasciculata f. depauperata (description based on a Cephalonian population N of Lixouri). This morphotype shares the same chromosome number with typical P. fasciculata (2n = 30: see Damboldt & Phitos 1972: 29); no geographical separation or ecological differentiation between these two can be observed neither within the Ionian Islands nor within the remaining species area in Western Greek mainland.
