Annotation: A wide circumscription of Rubus sanctus (i. e. including R. ulmifolius) is preferred here, considering the intermediate populations between these taxa (both diploid and reproducing sexually) present on the western Balkan peninsula for which an unambiguous assignment often is illusory. Though Monasterio-Huelin & Weber 1996 advocate treatment of R. sanctus and R. ulmifolius as separate species, they may better be interpreted as geographical races for which subspecific rank is appropriate. As both names in general have been used in a collective sense, the records published must be referred to the collective species and cannot be assigned to either of these two taxa without critical examination of vouchers.
