Annotation: Bornmüller was the first to suppose the Scutellaria populations of Mt. Ainos on Cephalonia to represent an undescribed species, for which he coined, however, the provisional name S. rupestris var. cephalonica in his collections (cf. Bornmüller 1928b: 308; it was later validly described as S. rubicunda subsp. cephalonica by Rechinger 1941b: 28). S. rupestris subsp. cephalonica is endemic to the Abies region of the Ainos massif (reaching altitudes of 1600 m a. s. l.; see Bothmer 1987). Its chromosome number 2n = 34 was determined on plants from the type region (Damboldt 1976: 279, as S. rubicunda subsp. cephalonica). In a recent study a through investivation was performed on fine scale distribution and conservation status (Gerakis & al. 2024). [2024-09-09]
