Annotation: Stachys ionica, an endemic species of the Ionian Islands, was described based on material from Lefkada (Akr. Zouánna) and Zakynthos (Halácsy 1908: 85–86); for plants from Cephalonia he added (op. cit.: 86) var. cephalonica that is taxonomically of minor relevance. The chromosome number of the species is 2n = 34, determined on material from Cephalonia and Lefkada (Damboldt 1976: 280, Baltisberger 1984: 55). Another deviating morphotype was reported from Kalamos (see Gutermann & al. 2014: 182). The single record of Stachys ionica from Corfu (»ob Troumpeta, 320–380 m«, Strasser 1990: 20) is most probably due to confusion with S. mollissima (which grows around this location). [2024-11-14]
